Cleanings & Exams

Regular dental cleanings play a big role in preventing tooth decay or other dental problems. During a cleaning, we’ll gently remove the plaque and tartar that have built up on your child’s teeth before giving them a brush and polish. We’ll also conduct a thorough, pain-free dental exam to help make sure your child is on the right track.

Dental Education For Parent & Child

What’s the most important thing you can do to keep your child’s teeth healthy? Support their good oral hygiene habits. We’ll make sure both you and your child know exactly what a good oral hygiene routine looks like so that you’ll both feel confident and excited about practicing those skills at home!

Fluoride

Did you know that fluoride treatments can help strengthen or “remineralize” tooth enamel? Over time, tooth enamel — the hard exterior of the tooth — tends to wear away, whether from brushing, eating, or exposure to bacteria. Regular fluoride treatments can help tooth enamel withstand acid attacks from bacteria and sugars which helps your child’s teeth stay strong and healthy.

Sealants

For teeth that may be especially difficult to brush, like back molars, we often recommend placing sealants. Sealants are thin protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth (usually molars) that create a physical, protective barrier that keeps bacteria out and thereby prevents cavities. This is a safe, quick procedure that can help prevent cavities in high risk areas of teeth for years to come.

Composite Bonding (Fillings)

If your child has a chipped tooth or cavities, we can help! Using dental composite, a safe, tooth-colored material, we can repair cavities or minor cosmetic damage and flaws through a simple bonding procedure. Quick and affordable bonding can provide years of elegant results.

Pulpotomies

Sometimes, a tooth can experience a cavity that becomes so large that it impacts the pulp (the soft tissue deep inside the tooth). That’s when we can perform a pulpotomy to gently clean out any inflamed or infected pulp tissue from the crown (top) of the tooth. This procedure allows a child to retain the tooth and allow it to remain in the mouth until the permanent tooth has erupted into place. We offer safe sedation options to help keep your child feeling comfortable during this simple, effective procedure if needed.

Crowns

In instances where your child’s tooth may be significantly decayed or damaged, dental crowns may be the treatment of choice. Dental crowns, often referred to as “caps,” fit over the affected tooth entirely. They are designed to mimic the look, function, and strength of natural teeth, enabling your child to continue eating, speaking, and smiling normally. Dental crowns can be made from a variety of materials. If needed, our doctors will go over optimal crown types tailored to your child’s individual needs.

Frenectomies

There are instances when a small band of tissue in the mouth known as “frenulum” can cause issues in a child’s tongue or lip movement. The most common issues include a “tongue-tie” and/or a “lip-tie” that restrict specific movements in the oral cavity leading to speech difficulties, feeding problems and other dental health issues. In these cases, a frenectomy may be required. A frenectomy is a straightforward and quick procedure that involves the removal or adjustment of the frenum.

At Growing Smiles, we make this procedure as comfortable and stress-free as possible for your child by using a laser treatment approach. After the procedure, children often experience immediate improvements in eating, speaking, and other elements of general health.
